TUMBLEWEED JUNCTION

The harsh deserted surroundings are softened by the comforting hues of the neon signs, creating an eerie, yet tranquil atmosphere.
Terry’s MOTO, once a bustling hub for travelers and passersby sits silent and still. The Pumps, long dry, stand as sentinels. Their once vibrant colors dulled by the relentless sun and sand blown winds. Dusty remnants of a bygone era remain untouched, which is a testament to the lives that once frequented here. Even though mostly abandoned, the sense of peace is throughout. The warm glow instilled a sense of comfort and familiarity. The desert surroundings, usually daunting, seem less threatening under the gentle illumination. In this moment this gas station becomes more than just an abandoned structure; It becomes a symbol of resilience and the human spirit’s enduring. The neon lights, despite their imperfections, still shine. A glimmer of hope in the vast expanse of the desert.

Tumbleweed Junction is a commissioned world that I’ve created a few iterations of. This iteration is an update to a former desert that I had made for my close friends, Nick and Midi. By far my most worked on project to date, one I burnt out on. I appreciate them for sticking with me throughout, I know it was likely difficult to watch my implosion. Regardless, an amalgamation of events and ideas that has created Tumbleweed Junction and a hell of a story to go along with it. (Terry’s backstory gets even more wild as time goes on it seems) Making sure to spend my time with the smaller details and plan more accordingly with the larger ones. There is a lot that could have been done differently; if I had made those changes, it would have been a different story. Seeing you both make use of this space and knowing that you feel at home there is the greatest gift I’ve been able to get from you. I know eventually I’ll come back to tidy it up when it is time, for now, it is enough.
